US SWUG Team Trials Announced
The 2009
US Summer World University Games (SWUG) Team Trials will be
held on Friday, May 15, 2009 in conjunction with the USAT
Qualifier being held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado
Springs, CO.

Taekwondo Conference Concludes Season
The Pac-West
Taekwondo Conference concluded its 2009 season last week.
The final standings were:

Dual Membership Announcement
The National
Collegiate Taekwondo Association and USA Taekwondo are pleased
to announce joint membership for 2009. The total cost for
the joint membership will be $40. The benefits to members
of both organizations include a modest savings on membership
fees along with the standard perks of belonging to each organization.
The 2009 black belt sparring champions from the 34th National
Collegiate Taekwondo Championships will also qualify for the
2009 Senior National Championships to be held June 30-July
5, 2009 in Austin, Texas. The 34th National Collegiate Taekwondo
Championships will be a USAT-sanctioned event.

Clarification Regarding High School Division at 2009
NCTA Championships
There
have been several questions regarding the eligibility of high
school students for the 2009 NCTA Championships. There will
be a special black belt sparring division for students who
meet the following criteria:
1) Must
be a black belt,
2) Must
provide proof of US Citizenship,
3) Must
be born between January 1, 1981 and December 31, 1991, and
4) Must
provide proof that they have been admitted as a degree seeking
student at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or univeristy
for the Fall 2009 period.
Students who win their weight class in the high school sparring
division will qualify for the 2009 US Summer World University
Games Taekwondo Team Trials.

Procedures for the 1st Pan American Collegiate Taekwondo Championships
The
1st Pan American Collegiate Taekwondo Championships will
be held on May 28 and 29, 2009 at the University of California,
Berkeley, in Berkeley, CA. This historical national team event
will feature collegiate national teams from PATU member nations.

Collegiate Nationals Date Change
There
has been a slight change to the 2009 Collegiate Nationals
dates. The new dates are Saturday, March 21, 2009 and Sunday,
March 22, 2009, and are one day later than previously announced.

WTF
Appoints NCTA Officials to WTF Committees
The NCTA
would like to congratulate NCTA Vice-President Russell Ahn
on his appointment as the chair of the WTF Collegiate Committee
and NCTA Referee Chair Victoria Serbin on her appointment
to the WTF Poomsae Committee. Their hard work and efforts
on behalf of Taekwondo have again been recognized internationally.

The 2009
Collegiate Nationals will be hosted at Brown University. The
current plan is for it to be hosted in late February or March
2009. The date will be announced as soon as plans are finalized.

US Collegiate National Team Earns 1 Silver, 2 Bronze at the
2008 WUTC
The US
Collegiate National Team recently returned from Belgrade,
Serbia where they finished competing at the World University
Taekwondo Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. The championships
took place from July 16 to July 20, 2008. 285 competitors
from 42 countries participated, according to the official
event website, http://www.tas.org.yu/wutc2008/.
Women's team captain Darcy Kimmich (Art Institute of
Pittsburgh; Aurora, Colo.) earned a silver medal in
women's welter. Men's team captain Stephen Lambdin (Texas
Christian University; Colleyville, Tex.) earned a bronze
in men's heavy, and John Duhart II (Menlo College;
Houston, Tex.) earned a bronze medal in men's fin.

Collegiate National Team Departs for World University Taekwondo
Championships
The US
Collegiate National Team departs this weekend for Belgrade,
Serbia to compete at the World University Taekwondo Championships
in Belgrade, Serbia. The championships will take place on
July 16-20, 2008. The event website is http://www.tas.org.yu/wutc2008/.
Competing for the women are Markie Keelan (California
State University Northridge ; Camarillo, Calif.) at finweight,
Danielle Pelham (Edmonds Community College ; Bothell,
Wash.) at flyweight, Aziza Chambers (University of
Dayton ; Springfield, Ohio) at bantamweight, Stephanie
Mackay (Metropolitan State College of Denver) at featherweight,
Christina Johnson (Montgomery College ; Galloway, NJ)
at lightweight, Darcy Kimmich (Art Institute of Pittsburgh
; Aurora, Colo.) at welterweight, Sanaz Shahbazi (CAJ
Skills & Business Education Center ; Sacramento, Calif.)
at middleweight, and Amanda Nissen (University of North
Texas ; Carrollton, Tex.) at heavyweight.
In the
men's divisions, John Duhart II will be competing at
finweight, Christian Valencia (Seattle University)
at flyweight, Jermaine James (Edison College ; Cape
Coral, Fla.) at bantamweight, Tal Moriah (Rice University
; Houston, Tex.) at featherweight, Stefan Webb (Metropolitan
State College of Denver; Littleton, Colo.) at lightweight,
Luke Ford (Nova Southeastern University ; Miami, Fla.)
at welterweight, Dennis Rudasill (Oklahoma State University
; Fayetteville, Ark.) at middleweight, and Stephen Lambdin
(Texas Christian University ; Colleyville, Tex.) at heavyweight.
A group
of officials (referees, coaches, trainer, and managers) will
be traveling with the team. NCTA President Rex Hatfield
will serve as the Team Leader. The team is fortunate to have
two referees this year, Larry Cain and Victoria
Serbin, the NCTA referee chair. Dr. Sherri LaShomb
will be serving as the team trainer again.
There
will be two people in dual coach/manager roles, Linda Buell,
the NCTA eligibility chair, and Dan Chuang, the NCTA
Secretary General. The coaches will be Steve Dring,
Scott Fujii, and Dave Pelham. In order to give
our two coach/managers more time to focus on coaching,
Heidi Fagerquist will serve as an overall team manager.

2008 US Collegiate Team Trials Schedule

Thunder Ridge High School in Highlands Ranch, CO (near Denver,

Congratulations
to Coach Tim Ghormley and the Stanford
Taekwondo Program on hosting a successful NCTA Championships

For the
first time in the history of the National Collegiate Taekwondo
Championships all of the black belt sparring competition will
be streamed live over the internet! All matches can be viewed
on Saturday April 26th by going to the tournament page: http://tkd.stanford.edu/collegiates
and clicking on the link. Stanford Athletics and the College
Sports Television Network (CSTV) have combined to make these
exciting matches available to taekwondo fans around the world.
