{"id":3183,"date":"2021-03-09T05:34:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-09T13:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ncta-usa.com\/?p=3183"},"modified":"2026-02-08T10:07:36","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T18:07:36","slug":"2021-world-university-games-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncta-usa.com\/wordpress\/2021\/03\/09\/2021-world-university-games-update\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 World University Games Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The NCTA recently received a letter from the USA International University Sports Federation (USIUSF) that the cancellation of the 2021 Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China is a &#8220;strong possibility&#8221;, with 75% of FISU member countries supporting this decision.<\/p>\n<p>If the Games are conducted as scheduled, proposed protocols\u00a0would include a 50% reduction in athletes, which would likely affect the number of divisions that could be sent to the Games. Additional protocols would include a minimum 7-day quarantine for all competing athletes.<\/p>\n<p>The USIUSF is suspending all selection processes until April 1, 2021, and therefore the NCTA will also suspend its selection\u00a0process until that time. If a selection does happen, it will remain in the late April\/Early may time frame,\u00a0so athletes will need to be ready to perform\/apply at that time.<\/p>\n<p>We know that this uncertainty is challenging for our collegiate athletes. Our recommendation is to continue training\u00a0and to be ready, but also to expect the possibility\u00a0that the Games may not happen.<\/p>\n<p>The NCTA is preparing for a possible in-person national event featuring both sparring\u00a0and poomsae this fall, so we hope that USA collegiate athletes can look forward to this event.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/ncta-usa.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/download.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3184\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3184\" src=\"https:\/\/ncta-usa.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/download.jpg\" alt=\"download\" width=\"240\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NCTA recently received a letter from the USA International University Sports Federation (USIUSF) that the cancellation of the 2021 Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China is a &#8220;strong possibility&#8221;, with 75% of FISU member countries supporting this decision.
