Stanford, CA, February 21, 2026<\/strong> – The PacWest Taekwondo Conference hosted a regional tournament at Stanford University on Saturday, February 21, 2026<\/strong>, marking the first time the conference experimented with the 3v3 team poomsae and team sparring format<\/strong>. The format mirrors the structure that will be used at the upcoming NCTA Cup at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill later this spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 30 athletes from five schools participated in the 3v3 portion of the tournament, creating an energetic competition environment that emphasized teamwork, school spirit, and camaraderie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several teams delivered standout performances throughout the event. In A-Team Poomsae<\/strong>, Berkeley PA1<\/strong>\u2014Annie Huang, Brandon dela Cruz, and Elyna Dotimas\u2014captured the gold medal. Stanford PA1<\/strong>, consisting of Michelle Dayeon Koo, Laney Flanagan, and Jose Luiz Nunes, earned silver, while Berkeley PA2<\/strong>\u2014Kevin Le, Lucien Dao, and Isha Tailor\u2014and UC Davis PA1<\/strong>\u2014Ethan Zhang, Gia Bohorquez, and Angelina Cuan\u2014shared bronze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In B-Team Poomsae<\/strong>, UC Davis PB1<\/strong>\u2014Jordan Crowley, Chloe Sagan, and Olivia Chu\u2014took first place, followed by Berkeley PB1<\/strong>\u2014Julia Grilli and Derek Deng\u2014with silver. Stanford PB1<\/strong>\u2014Elliott Rodgers and Louise Schul\u2014earned bronze. In C-Team Poomsae<\/strong>, USF PC1<\/strong>\u2014Rachel Perez, Charish Holland, and Raphe Lim\u2014claimed the gold medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team sparring divisions also saw strong participation. Fresno State<\/strong> captured gold in Men\u2019s A, B, and C Team Sparring<\/strong>, while Stanford<\/strong> secured gold in Women\u2019s A Team Sparring<\/strong> and USF<\/strong> took gold in Women\u2019s C Team Sparring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the overall team standings<\/strong>, Fresno State<\/strong> emerged as the tournament champion. Stanford<\/strong> earned second place<\/strong>, while UC Berkeley<\/strong> and the University of San Francisco<\/strong> tied for third place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamsheed Mistri<\/strong>, Secretary General of the PacWest Taekwondo Conference, reflected on the success of the event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHosting the NCTA-style 3v3 event for the first time in PacWest was a blast\u2014athletes, coaches, and spectators alike were excited about the event. We are thrilled to see the event grow on the west coast and further promote school spirit, camaraderie, and respect through competition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament served as an important step for the PacWest region as more collegiate programs prepare to compete in the team-based format. Athletes are now looking ahead to competing in the NCTA Cup<\/strong> at the 2026 National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships<\/strong>, taking place April 24\u201326 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
