Designated Poomsae:

Designated poomsae for black belt competitors will be posted 1 week prior to the event. Color belt competitors will choose a rank-appropriate form as described in the tournament packet.

Eligibility:

Athletes must be enrolled in a college at half-time (6 credits) or greater, or have graduated from a college in 2019 or 2020.

Format:

All poomsae to be performed live in front of a panel of USAT or World Taekwondo certified referees, scored according to WT poomsae rules. Competitors will be able to see each other compete in real time. Competitors will compete in the World Taekwondo cut-off format, see packet for more details. All performance will be live on the day of the competition and not pre-recorded.

The tournament platform will be Zoom with live Youtube streaming.

  • 17+ Collegiate White/Yellow Belt
  • 17+ Collegiate Green Belt
  • 17+ Collegiate Blue Belt
  • 17+ Collegiate Red Belt
  • 17+ Collegiate Black Belt

Cost:

The tournament fee is $25.

Who can compete?

Eligibility is the same as our NCTA Championships - students enrolled half-time or greater, or graduated in 2019 or 2020.

What is the format?

World Taekwondo cut-off format will be used for all divisions. Black belts will compete with designated poomsae, 1 form in prelims and semis, and 2 forms in finals. Color belts will compete with 1 chosen rank-level form in prelims, semis and finals.

My competitor doesn't have enough space to do a whole form. Can they compete?

Yes, absolutely! Modified rules allow for repositioning within your space at no penalty.

My competitor doesn't have a uniform, or a non-poomsae uniform. Can they compete?

Yes, absolutely! Athletes can compete at this tournament wearing athletic clothing or v-neck uniforms as well as y-neck poomsae uniforms.

Are medals awarded?

Yes, all gold medalists will receive a medal in the mail at no cost. Silver and bronze medalists will receive an emailed certificate, and will have the opportunity to purchase a medal. Certificates will also recognize the top male and female athlete, as well as the top 3 placing schools.

Is this tournament USAT Sanctioned?

No - based on feedback from member schools, and to keep entry fees low ($25), NCTA has decided not to sanction this event, but does plan to hold USAT sanctioned events in the future.
