2019 NCTA Collegiate and High School Championships Packet Posted

The NCTA Championships Tournament packet has been posted to the NCTA Championships website, including schedule information, hotel information, and tournament rules.

Please note that tournament hotel information has been posted at the site above and is in the packet, and that the host hotel rates expire on March 27.

Also, all collegiate ant high school championship divisions serve as qualifiers for the 2019 USA Taekwondo National Championships. All competitors (high school and collegiate) will qualify to compete at the 2019 USA Taekwondo National Championships in their corresponding poomsae and/or sparring divisions. Please note that the High School Sparring Divisions will not earn ranking points due to the age spread (15-19), however, collegiate championship black belt poomsae and sparring divisions are USAT 10.0 events.

Collegiate black belt poomsae team trial divisions will serve as Team Trials for the 2019 U.S. National Collegiate Team and are not a ranking point event. Due to the FISU limitation of 6 total poomsae athletes per country, trials will be held only for the male team and female team divisions, with the individual and pair athletes being chosen from among the 6 selected athletes.

NCTA Mourns Loss of Lou Keppner

The NCTA is deeply sorry to hear of the passing of NCTA referee, Mr. Lou Keppner. Mr. Keppner has refereed at NCTA events for many years, and more recently had co-created the poomsae scoring system used at recent USAT and NCTA events and supported NCTA events in that capacity.

Said NCTA Referee Char Mike Wickham, “Mr. Keppner was a man who gave of himself for Taekwondo. For the Poomsae Pro system he helped create, he spent the time to make sure things worked smoothly. I will miss seeing him at events and enjoy the visits during those time. Lou was the consummate professional in what he did.”

Mr. Keppner will be missed and condolences of the all the NCTA officers go out to his family.

Date of 2019 Summer World University Games Sparring Team Trials Announced

As mentioned earlier, the NCTA will hold a team trials event (open to those meeting collegiate and age eligibility requirements) that will be separate from the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships (to be held April 19-21, 2019 at U. of Texas, Austin).  The purpose of these trials are to choose the sparring team members to represent USA at the 2019 Summer World University Games in Naples, Italy. The poomsae team trials, due to the smaller size of the event, will be held concurrent with the NCTA Championships in April.

The date of the sparring team trials will be Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Ft. Worth, TX. The trials will be held in the same venue as the Texas State USAT National Qualifier in Fort Worth, TX. Please plan your spring competition schedule accordingly!

As a reminder only flyweight through middleweight divisions will be contested at the trials, and only those aged 18-25 on Dec. 31, 2019 will be eligible.
